Aloha Aina Party Kicks Off Campaign Season

The Aloha Aina Party gained official party recognition for the first time this election cycle, giving them a spot on the ballot. They now have a slate of 21 candidates, running for everything from U.S. Congress to State House to Mayor and local government. They're part of growing trend of Native Hawaiians, who historically have had low voter turnout, choosing to get involved in the process to make change. "Hawaii has always been an existing kingdom, we're just occupied. We just want to work with our occupiers," Chairman Don Kaulia says. Aloha Aina Party Candidates want to focus on everything from education to healthcare, supporting Hawaii agriculture, and decreasing our state's reliance on tourism. The Aloha Aina Party says it can be a home for people frustrated with the two party system.
